In honor of Mother's Day....

I work full time nights in our local ICU. I love it. Working nights is always tough, people forget I may be in my PJ's at noon or 1 o'clock. I have been known to go to carpool in my PJ's. I was even called into the school unexpectantly while in my PJ's. :-/ hehehe, I just let them know I had worked and just gotten up. 

Working nights means I miss a lot of sleep. I generally only take a 2 hour nap if I don't have to work again that night. I would rather be sleep deprived but able to sleep well that night than sleep the day away and be up at night at home. 

There are many challenges to working at night but I continue so that I may be there for my boys during the day. If they need something for school or they have a special award presentation or any number of things, I am there during the day and dad is there for them at night.

Mostly, I miss bedtime but when I am home I slip in before going to bed myself and kiss there cheeks. They seldom budge but it fills my bucket as mom. I love watching them sleep. They are innocent and peaceful and it just soothes my soul to see them safely tucked in. 

Ahh, the things we moms do.

As I worked on this my son looked over my shoulder. After reading the quote he was surprised to hear dad announce that "mom really does too". He just smiled. Made me smile to.

I love being a mom.

Handmade Cards

I made 20 invite cards for a project at work. I love how they turned out.

Then some Thank you cards with the same color pattern. They were so simple and easy to make.

Here is what I came up with for a more masculine card. The writing says, "Dude, You Rock!"

Lots of complements came with these cards. 

Then for mom's day I made these for the 2 wonderful mom's in my life.

My sweetheart gave me a cuddle bug for Christmas and I LOVE IT! I love how a little imprint can make a simple paper pop.

Making my own cards makes me want to send them more. It's so enjoyable to throw together several cards and have on hand for birthdays or holidays. Just to send a homemade touch, straight from teh heart. Made with love from 4growingboys!

I am not eloquent of speech (wish I were) but I wanted to let the mothers in my life know how special they are. I have many fond memories of my mom and the lessons she has taught me. My love of crafting and homemaking comes from a mother who can do it all. I really think the only craft she is limited by is knitting. I learned to craft, sew, grow a garden then can those vegi's as well as cook from a mother who knew and cared enough to teach me. How thankful I am for these skills (even more so is my dear husband). I am amazed at the number of ladies who don't have these skills in their lives.

Mom, I will endevor to remember stories of records through picture windows when I replace the computer screen after having a toy launched by little fingers at it. And wooden spoon's effect on moving beaters as my boys tip over grandfather clocks. Or when the scooters are parked behind the van, again. I will remember teaching cartwheels as we head to the ER, again.

I will savor all these but most of all the moments of cuddling on the couch. Of dandilion boquets that bring on itchy eyes and sneezing. I will cherish the repeated calls of "MOMMMMMYYYYY!" I will drink the "special juice" and smile through the eggs shells in scrambled eggs from my breakfast in bed. I will imprint the size of those little fingers, the sounds of laughter from little voices, and the stilling of that little cry with a hug. I will count my blessings one slobbery kiss at a time.

I will strive to teach my boys to be strippling warriors so that they too may one day say, "we did not doubt for our mother taught us".

Mom, thanks for teaching me everything.

And my other mom, thanks for raising your strippling warrior. He has become as Captain Moroni.

Ideas for Mother's day

So I am needing a break from all the craziness of late. I will soon be -selectively- packing my craft supplies so I will have to use this as a log of my project wish list. Plus tonight I will be planning next months Bear Cub Scouts calendar. We always try to have mom and dad's day gifts the boys can do. So tonight I start my ideas for young boys to do for their mothers......
We have done rocks before but they are always fun. I especially like the card Oopsey Daisy came up with.

She has a nice poem inside to go along with the rock.

I also like this idea....I am definantly into simple this year. Allison even gives you the labels to download. Tie a string around a flower and VOILA! Easy peasy!

These are listed as teachers gifts but they would work great for mom too....

Time to get ready for a 5 year old's birthday party. He has been counting down ALL MONTH LONG! He gets to have a sleep over with his best friend and cousin..... Yeah, I have officially lost my mind!
