CREATE!

Remember way back when... I first blogged my "Create" here
I stamped the letters on canvas and placed it in wooden hoops. A simple way to make a stunning statement.
But how to hang it in my new craft room......
How about upcycling a piece of ribbon from our fuzzy throw blanket?!
Just lay it out. Space the letters evenly and....

VOILA! A great piece of wall art.
What do you think?
I'm loving it!

Craft room Reveal!!

I am so excited to finally be able to show you this!
Remember this....
Yeah, kinda rough. It took all my time through November (thus the reason for no posts) but it was worth it.

Yep! That is my finished guest/craft room. Ahhhh, it feels good. We worked so hard to finish this. My dear hubby endulges me enough to understand my need for a personal retreat. Not to mention somewhere to focus my creative juices. Now I can retreat to my corner of the world anytime I feel the need.
I was worried about the bright yellow but I have grown to love it. It is bright and cheery- perfect for a basement room. I pledged to have one room of my house that had no blue in it. I also wanted to coordinate with the bedspreads I already had. This is what I came up with.
Yellow, soft green and black and white.
I still need to do a few things, like paint the window trim, add decor to the walls and sew the curtains.
Right now they are just draped up there. I had to test them out. I am so visually oriented that it makes a difference for me to see something in place to picture the end result.
We were going to put a twin/full bunkbed in this room but it quickly filled up. We opted to switch the boys beds around and put one of the twin beds in here. This was we still have lots of room for visiting family and friends but I don't feel boxed in.
The queen bed set was a steal on KSL.com. It would probably look better in black with silver knobs but it is such a nice piece I can't bring myself to paint it- yet.
I used the bottom drawers of the dresser for my gift bags and tissue paper. Ahhh, storage. It's heavenly!
And this?! Well, THIS is my corner of the world. It is all mine, to craft, sew, ponder, create and refocus.
Come on over anytime. I have a chair waiting just for you! We can create and visit and have a dandy ol' time.
In the corner I have my "cutting corner". I still have some work to do here as well but it's a work in progress.
One of the things we planned for was to have enough closet space to put all my projects and supplies. I figured if it overflowed it was time to get something done or done-away-with.
I used a clear shoe organizer to put all my scissors in. I may put my stamps in it too....
On one side I have my fabric sorted by shades. This is mostly the sewing side of things.
Oh, and that middle row is full of projects to finish or start. All those plans I had but never got to before my room was finished. Now they are just waiting their turn.
The drawers were on sale at Michaels on Black Friday; 50% off plus another 25% off coupon. I grabbed a couple for myself then some for mom and mom-in-law Christmas gifts.
I organized all my stickers in mine.
The back wall holds misc craft supplies. Beads, jewerly making supplies, wood crafts, paint brushes, glue guns, balloons, gift wrapping, birthday party supplies... All sorts of fun stuff.
On the other side is my paper crafts. Ribbons, buttons, paper, punches, stamps, cutters...it's all there.
Above are boxes of pictures. Something yet to be organized.
I love everything about my room. We even managed to clean up the soon-to-be family room just outside my room so the boys can play Lego's and games while I craft. I can craft when I want and when I am done I just close the door. It will be nice too to hide things in when family comes to visit. No peaking!
Yep, just my little piece of heaven here on earth.
I LOVE IT!!!

Craft room storage ideas....

I came across this post on a craft/laundry room redo. She posts some great ideas. Some of these ideas are helpful in my temporary storage needs too. So of course I had to post about it for my own needs. This is the only way I know to remember great ideas I want to follow.

Reclaiming my space

As life is always crazy and I now do more digital (well ALL digital) scrapbooking my paper craft table was becoming a shambles. I would rush down to make a card, label, sign or someother quick project and rush back upstairs to meet life demands. It was terrible. I love clean lines and to have everything neat and organized. "Everything in it's place" remember? So yesterday I told Robin I had to have some time to fix this problem...... I couldn't find things and that is just not ok with me. Acutally, IT DRIVES ME CRAZY! So dear, darling Robin watch over things while I escaped to CLEAN! It didn't take long but the results were great...
I am still working on my cabinets from Knockoffwood. I hope to have them done this week then I can start putting supplies away a bit better. For now, this is a breath of fresh air. I guess this is just an ongoing project. I will keep you posted bit by bit. I have to focus on just 1 section at a time otherwise I will lose it. ;-) I put all my ribbon on a multi pants hanger and hung it in front of my sewing machine. FINALLY a way to keep these organized. Ahh, much better...After I was done I had space to start on my next project. Another DI deal. Here is a glimps....
Robin was a bit unsure as I collected my supplies but with it coming together he caught the vision and rather likes it. Bit by bit my space is evolving into what I have pictured in my head. This is my corner in a crazy life of blue. Hey, if I use PINK paint do you think the boys will develop an adversion to this area? Maybe keep little fingers out? -huh, yeah probably not but I can dream right?!

Project 10 of 52: Valentines Mailboxes

So it's after Valentines but I finally got these done. There were easy to make. The boys were excited and tried to talk mom into letting them take them to school to use- um no. This is mine. I didn't think the boys would appreciate the lace. ;-)
There are 2 dog themes, 2 hot lips, and one hearts. They are lines and have straps with buttons to hook over the railing.
I did each of the flaps a little different just to try different looks. Fun to make. I actually have one more to assemble but Matthew was being a little too helpful and I can't find one of my buttons now. He likes to sit on my box of fabric and play in my sewing draws. What would you guess he seeks out? Out of all my sewing tools? My pin cushion! I don't know what the fascination is for a pin cushion but he loves to play with that tomatoe! I just have to be careful to pick up any stray pins. Silly boy.
I think I will leave the Valentine decor up till the end of the month then put up Easter. I have more Easter decor but want to do up the mantel. I like to add a little each year so we will see what I can come up with this year. Plus, I will be organizing the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt again. It was a huge success last year and I am excited to do this again. Can you believe we are looking to Easter already? I am already thinking of gardening too. We had a great garden last year but I want to have a better one. We need beans and I am hoping to get my peas going this year. There is always something isn't there?!

Oh, and I started my craft cupboards today! I am doing this project on my own. It is exciting. I can't wait to show you! I think it is going to be FABULOUS!

Organizing dreams.

I have a few things that are VERY therapeutic to me and since this past week has been more rough than smooth I am indulging myself. I have a corner of the house that is just mine. I have a tendancy to see something and think, "wow, that's simple. I can do that" then I start into another project. I do a wide variety of things as you can tell- paper scrapbooking, digiscrap, sewing, painting, home decor, general crafts, scouting etc. This list goes on and on. I guess I like variety. I retreat to my world, listen to the boys wrestle, play 'puffles' or play video games, all while creating something-anything! My mind can work out it's troubles and my hands stay busy and in the end life is beautiful again. I come by the crafting naturally. My mom always had something going on too. She jokes that she would have Christmas for everyone for a couple of years if she finished all her projects. Actually mom, didn't you just give us Christmas for a couple of years by finishing your projects?! ;-) I think the only thing she doesn't know how to do is knit! Literally! Well all this variety can cause a few cliches in the system. How do you organize such a wide variety of supplies? Afterall, my corner of the world is rather small! Well, tonight I am sharing my vision of my crafting area. I am afraid it will take several months to complete as we do ittybitty pieces, bit by bit that won't knock us off budget! Here is what it looks like now.....(drum roll please)Believe it or not it has looked worse. We started a few months ago buying shelves to help organize things. And I have been adding the storage drawers little by little. They are handy and I like being able to assign a place for various items, like all the beads in one, all the posicle sticks and such in another- very handy.
The boxes at the top and most of the drawers are full of scout supplies, beads, fun foam, pompoms, leather working tools, my label maker, etc.....
Since switching to digital scrapbooking I use most of my paper supplies for cards or tags or other various such projects. This table is in need of serious help. It is always piled with odds and ends. I do love my peg board though. Robin put that in and bought the various hooks for me. He is amazingly supportive of my addiction to all things crafty....
This side is still developing. I bought the shoe boxes thinking they would be great.....but haven't figured out just what yet. I think I mostly just need a day to redo and reorganize but when I come here I digress with my projects and craftiness takes over. I didn't dare take a picture of the pile of fabric scraps on the floor- don't worry, they are piled to overflowing in a storage container. Well, in light of all this and my increasing need to organize my little retreat I have come up with a plan. I love clean crisp lines in home decor. I also love organization! A place for everything and everything in it's place is my mantra. Yeah, I know, you couldn't tell from these pictures! That's the problem. So I had to decide to get serious with my current system and finish it or SOMETHING! Well, I have a couple of problem areas. #1 the space is long and narrow. #2 I have ALL SORTS of supplies.

I love to blog. I have gotten so many great ideas for really cheap! Home decor ideas are no exception. Then I found this post here. I love her room. I especially love the cupboards. Everything is put away.I also found a few other craft area posts that got my brain to thinkin'! Some were small narrow spaces like mine too. So, I did what any woman would do. Came running home to dear sweet Hubby and shared my ideas! Just testing the ground at first but being the great guy that he is, he was ok with whatever I decided. THE TRICK! I had to stay within our budget! UGH! That always puts a cramp in things. BUT! Never fear, I had a plan for this too. See I have recently fell in love with another blog- see I told you I like to blog serf- Knockoffwood. Ana is great and makes these projects super simple! So here is my plan. I plan to build something like this:
Photo from Pottery Barn via knockoffwood.
Yeah- we can do it! This is just a series of pieces and with Ana's directions it won't be much at all. So along one wall will be my work bench/table. Along the other will be my cupboards and perhaps counter top. Along the back wall (where my pegboard is) will be open with maybe just a rolling cart. I plan to have a draw or cupboard for everything and labeled. It will take a while but the great part is we can do it piece by piece. What do you think? You can see the plans here.
Robin built a piece for the family room yesterday and had a lot of fun doing it. He was rather proud of himself! I will share those pictures later. I am anxious to get going on this big project but this will be an exersice in patience!!! :-) E.X.C.I.T.I.N.G!!
