Poodle skirt

Project 49 of 52
I didn't realize until the other day that I never shared this. I have always thought it would be fun to have a poodle skirt. You don't use them very often but it is way fun when you do. I decided what better opportunity to make one than my Sock Hop for Activity Days. I am not much of a model but...

I found the sweater at the DI. It was perfect! I just needed to add some white socks but I didn't bother for my short model. It was a simple pattern and undernieth is netting to make it full.

Snowman kit

Our snow is gone now but before it melted away the boys made a snowman and were searching for supplies to dress him properly. I didn't have a carrot or coal; we had extra scarves but perhaps after mom saying "no" a couple of times already they gave up on asking again. Instead, Tyler finished playing then came in rubbing his bare arms and announced he was freezing.
Mom: "Where's your coat?"
Ty: I gave it to Frosty!
That's when I decided I needed to make a snowman kit. I hadn't figured anything out since then but tonight I found this post at the Fickle Pickle. Yep, I think that will work perfectly! It will probably have to wait until after Christmas projects are done but the forcast isn't calling for snow anytime soon either.

Christmas name tags

Project 48 of 52
I enjoyed making the Thanksgiving name tags that I thought I would do up some Christmas name tags. I love having a cricuit. It makes it easy; just cut several different shapes and add a little embellishment and write in your name of choice.
I found these perfect stickers at Michaels. They are small and just what I needed. How simple is that?
I wanted to keep them simple. Just a nice tag with some glitter writing was simple and fun too.
If you don't have a way to cut tag shapes you can just do a rectangle and round the edges. Here is another of those small stickers I found.

Kaylyn and I enjoyed this project but I think we had more fun laughing and sharing stories. My belly hurt by the time we were done! A few other ideas that I thought of but didn't make up are:
recycle old Christmas cards by cutting them into strips and making napkin rings from them.
Store bought large name tags
Stuff a clear ornament with papers with names on it
Ornament balls with name written with glitter glue
Mini presents with name on the tag
or
Vinyl names on chargers
And it has become official. Everyone asked if we were BYU fans or Utes. Our response was usually "I don't know" or "Go Boise State!" but here in Utah you have to declare blue or red. After going to a BYU game I guess it makes us officially BYU fans. Robin even brought home the mug to prove it.
So here is a summary of my day, a little wassle to warm me while I read Harry Potter (again) and then topping it off with some Christmas tags. Yep, it was a good day.

Whats on the Menu...strawberry banana omelet....

Here's this weeks menu. I planned 2 weeks at a time but this time it didn't seem to come together real easily. Funny how sometimes the menu literally falls together and other times is seems to fall apart. Maybe it's time for me to surf a few cooking blogs again. Or, maybe holiday treats are just more enticing than dinners. Either way I hope seeing what I planned will help you with your menus.....

Monday: Sweet Teryaki Chicken
Tuesday: Creamy Ham Fettuccine
Wednesday: Strawberry Banana Omelets (a surprising mix of yumminess)
Thursday: Pork Roast with cranberry sauce
from Real Mom Kitchen; I much prefer the homemade sauce
Friday: Soup and Grilled Cheese
Saturday: Spaghetti

Strawberry Banana Omelet
from Taste of Homes 2007 Quick Cooking
3 Tbs butter, divided
2 Tbs brown sugar
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
2 medium firm bananas, sliced
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
6 eggs
2 Tbs water
1/2 tsp salt
Powdered sugar
In a small saucepan, heat 1 Tbs butter, brown sugar and cinnamon over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Add bananas and vanilla; toss to coat. Remove from the heat; stir in strawberries. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat the eggs, water and salt. Heat remaining butter in a 10 in. nonstick skillet over medium heat; add egg mixture. As eggs set. lift edges, letting uncooked portion flow underneath.
When eggs are almost set, spread 2/3 of fruit mixture over one side; fold omelet over filling. Cover and cook for 1-2 minutes or until heated through. Slide onto serving plate; top with remaining fruit mixture and dust with powder sugar.

Enjoy!

Boy coat hook ideas.....

So I had what I thought was a great idea to control little boys coats and backpacks but with heat vents and outlets it was going to be more than I had bargained for so I turned to blog surfing for some new ideas. I found this rack and might have to make it for the entry way. 2 hooks for each boys, one for the backpack and one for the coat/jacket......
And perhaps this in the bedroom....
What about one like this from Moody Girl?
I thought of tweeking this a bit and having sheet metal for all their artwork instead of the mirror? What do you think? Anyone have any other great ideas? I am hoping for something creative rather than a plain coat rack.....
Hmmm, anyone?
