PTA fundraiser ideas and a printable.

We have a wonderful PTA. We work hard to send each class on a field trip, increase technology in each classroom, and support our teachers and show them how much we care. This year we have decided to do away with kids selling products in favor of other fundraisers. I am thrilled! They are going to be fantastic!
This is what we are planning:
1- A Flea Market sale
2- Our annual Halloween Carnival
3- Santa's Sweet Gift Shop
4- Penny Wars
5- Fun run/walk
We have done the middle 3 yearly but added the other 2 this year.
I am in charge of the Flea Market and I couldn't be more excited with how it is going. We hope to turn it into an annual event. I wanted to have 80 spaces 'rented' and have so far gotten over 60 with 3 weeks left. The PTA is renting the parking spaces to those with yard sale goods, homemade crafts, or small businesses. We have such a variety of vendors already signed up. From DoTerra, Tupperware, and Pauperauzzi, to Custom concrete, Maxi skirts, and homemade treats. All the money the vendors make is theirs to keep. Our money comes from the space rental making it a win/win deal. Now to pray the weather holds. I think I will be getting quite a bit of Christmas shopping done myself.

Although we have done the Santa shop in the past we decided to stock it ourselves. We felt the company we used in the past charged too much for...well...basically junk. As frugal moms we just couldn't handle our kiddos paying for useless junk. We thought we could do better. So over the past year we have shopped after season clearance sales, made crafts and requested donations. I think it is going to be so much better. We only made a small amount last year because of the large overhead. It is such a great time for the kids to be able to shop for their family without mom or dad that we wanted to continue it but wanted to provide better quality products for them. I have been putting together crafts big and small. I was tasked with gifts for dads, grandpas, and brothers...all the boy gifts. It made sense with 4 boys but boy gifts are a bit harder than girls and they are not found on sale as easily. Still, I have to admit it has gone well. I have more to make and need to pull out my sewing machine but we are getting there. I will let you know how well we do in December.

Last year we had the Penny wars among the classes. Those little kiddos brought in over $1500 in coins from their piggy banks! How awesome is that. A little healthy competition can go a long way. The bonus was just watching all the kids get excited to see their jars fill up. This year we found a couple of spiral wishing wells that will add to our penny wars. We plan to have "vs" wars with them. For example iphone vs android, vote for your favorite. Should be fun. Besides ya gotta admit those funnels are just cool to watch.

Our other new fundraiser this year is the fun run/walk. It will be our spring event. Although I am not a runner races are always a great way to build support.

Our Halloween Carnival is our biggest event. It is a huge undertaking but the kids and community love it! After all what is Halloween without a school carnival. ;-)

I will keep you posted on the success of our adventures. We are also working on grants and bigger company programs like box tops, Walmart, and Target gift cards. What are some of the fundraising events you have had success with? I would love to hear your ideas. Our parents have been thrilled with the idea of not selling products. This momma included!

I thought I would share a printable freebie. This is the sign I made up for our Flea Market. Hope you have fun using it too. Just click on the photo to download.

Window lights secret revealed....

I love Christmas! I do! I love everything about this time of year, the hustle, the bustle, the jingle bells, presents, and the LIGHTS!

My sweet hubby has learned by now that one thing that is sure to score him some brownie points is helping put up the lights. He does the outside while I do this inside.

I remember as a little girl laying at the foot of my top bunk bed and falling asleep to the flashing of the lights outside. We always put lights inside our windows too. It took at least a roll of tape per window to get those lights to stick to the frost covered windows.

Thankfully we don't have to use quite so much tape anymore. Just a few strategically placed clips and voila...you have great window lights.
My secret?
Command hooks. Yep, I love 'em!
I found these small clear clips this year. You hardly even see them.
They hook to the wire which helps if you have to adjust a bit. I used 8 on each window pane.
Just stick them to to window then clip the wire in. They are really strong. Then come off easily after the holidays. I used them last year too but I love the smaller size of these. Definently worth the couple bucks.
Plus you just get new sticky tabs and reuse the hooks next year.....hmmm I should buy stock in command hooks. I use them all the time.
(I received no compensation for this, just my $0.02 worth ;-)

Posts of note...

I added curtains to my bedroom- finally. Now, I need something to dress up my kitchen window. With a house of boys not many of my window treatments have a soft edge, but now, my kitchen will. I saw this and had to post about it so I could find it when I am ready to sew curtains.

I love organized closets! Take the side street has it perfect! My oldests closet started out great but has gone down hill. I need to redo it with something better. This closet is just inspiring.
With our trip to California creeping closer and closer this car organizer caught my eye.
We need to make use of all the space we can. Hmmm, I think I am gonna have to get the sewing machine out.

Matchbox Valentines and other Valentine Projects

Josh just handed me his class list for Valentines Day, then I came across this...
How cute! He would be the hit in his class...well at least with the girls!
What little girl wouldn't love this to pass notes too?! Perhaps I will make some more like spy gear for the boys.  Check them out at Embellishing Life.

She also has other great Valentine ideas like this map....
I love this conversation heart garland. This would be an easy project to keep in my bag for all the times mom spends waiting- car pool, dr office, car pool, 15 minutes in between pick up and drop offs, you know what I'm talking about...

I can think of a couple of guys this would be great for! So easy. Maybe I will add it to my gift closet stash. It's always good to have something on hand for a last minute gift!
What do you think Kaylyn? Something for Jeff for Fathers day?

52 projects COMPLETED! Horray!

I made it. I didn't think I would a time or two. I wondered if I should just give up and try again while moving. My projects weren't all what I thought they would be but how fun it is to look back over the past year and see what I've accomplished. Remember this post about 2010 looking up? I had no idea how much life would change for us but yet still stay the same.

So there they are, all 52 projects. Everyone asks me what I am going to do now. Don't worry, I will still be doing crafting. I always have one project or another going on. Good thing my dear hubby is so good to me, otherwise I could get myself into a lot of trouble. I just can't sit still. Maybe it's because my mind is always going a million miles a minute. I have to write everything down and always have a to do list.
In fact I have a couple more projects in the works already. I am even working on a simple tutorial I am excited to show you.
Just keep watching. I will let you know when I decide on my goal/project for 2011. The new year is just around the corner!

Have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
