You're Egg-stra special

I am in the middle of a 4 day stretch at work. (I work 12 hour night shifts.) You never sleep as well or as deep when you sleep during the day. By the end of my days I could be dragging pretty well. Nothing a good NIGHTS sleep won't fix though. We truely are not meant to be nocturnal creatures. Tonight could be interesting trying to stay away. ;-) awhhh the joys of shift work.
Time is short so today I am leaving you with this fun little word art....
Now to figure something for dinner. hmmmm, any ideas?!

Hippity, Hoppity, Happy Easter

We spent the weekend doing work on our house before selling it. Needless to say our Easter weekend was NOT all that we wanted. Still the boys got to enjoy some fun egg hunts with family and friends. We are back home hoping to relax before everyone returns to work and school. In the meantime I took advantage of my sweet hubby being home to do up some fun Easter word art. I will be posting one each day this week so come back, share your fun stories and pick up something fun to go with all your Easter pictures.

Project 20 & 21 of 52: Scripture bags & Easter wreath

I Made it Monday
I made these for the boys for Easter. The boys each got a new set of scriptures for Easter too. I wasn't sure if Josh would want one mom made plus I ran out of time so I gave him the option of a traditional scripture bag, "like dad's" or one of these. He wants one of these so I am going to be making one more. They were fairly simple to put together and the best part is I already had all of the supplies. They are big enough to hold their doodle tablets as well.
I am excited about how they turned out. The front has pockets for pens and a small notebook. I used the coin pocket from the jeans too. I found the tutorial on The Polka Dot Chair. I think the boys liked them as well. Last night they raced to get their "new scriptures" for reading even though the "old" ones were right by the couch. The goal is that they will learn to mark and search their scriptures then when the get they turn 12 they will get a nice leather set. Whatever will get them reading their scriptures is good for me.

I also made this wreath. Robin commented that he likes wreaths because you can have them for any holiday. I didn't have as much Easter decor as I thought but this was all I got added this year. I have been too busy with other projects and Easter came much faster this year.
I bought the eggs and butterflies from the Dollar Tree. The rest I already had on hand. I even have 6 more eggs that I could make another one. Spanish moss is a MESS! to deal with though. I used spray craft glue. I don't know how else you could get all the bits to stick down. The eggs and butterflies I used my hot glue gun. That is definitely one tool I could not live without. I use my glue gun for everything.
I am nearly done with my hamper redo so be watching for that. Anyone else have great ideas to share? Let me know.

Scraping Sunday

I worked on several things all day today while watching conference. Loved it! Did you notice how many talked about Love in all it's forms? We had to watch via internet. It streams about 10 minutes behind. I don't care for it much as it's harder to keep the boys involved but for now it works. We will have cable by next time.
So for today I have the April VT handout as well.
Download it HERE and HERE

You place the blue page over the pink portion. I worked off the idea of opening the door to personal revelation. I hope you like it. I connected the two pages with brads. Here is mine...
Sorry the second picture is rotated. Not sure why and I'm not sure how to fix it but you get the idea.
I also worked on redoing my laundry hamper. I will hopefully finish that tomarrow. This week will be week of finishing projects. I am trying desperately to wrap a few things up for if and when we move. DH has vetoed a yard sale this summer so we will be listing our goodwill stuff for a charitable contributions tax write off next year and taking it to the D.I. Now that we are done having kids we will be getting rid of our baby supplies among other things.
Yesterday we had a great family gathering with, as usual, too much food. I hope to have those pictures scrapped by next week. It will be great to use my Easter downloads. As I finish up Christmas pictures here are a couple I worked on this past week.
Nothing fancy. I figure if I can just keep up, sort of, then the boys and their families won't much care how fancy the pages are. Rather they will enjoy the PICTURES themselves. I know that's what I enjoy most when looking through scrapbooks. The embelishments are just nice extras. Well, that's my hope at least. Of course that means I need to get to printing some of these pages. I was warned when I started digitally scrapping that you have to be sure to actually PRINT your pages. I was going to print them into bound books but since I am not doing them 100% chronologically I will be printing them by sheets. This way I can use up the binders I have already as well. WNWN, right Tina?! Ok, off to bed. Sleep tight. Hope you all had a fabulous Easter and enjoyed conference. Let me know if you download the VT message and what you think!

All you need to know about EGGS!

Avoid Fresh Eggs when peeling:
Did you know that fresh eggs don't peel well after boiled? You know when you grab one and part of the egg comes with the shell no matter what you do? Well you had Fresh Eggs! So if you are planning to color eggs for Easter you may want to buy them this week and let them sit in your fridge over the next couple weeks. Eggs will stay good for a surprising amount of time.

Freezing Eggs:
Did you know you can freeze eggs too? Just not in their shells. Crack 'em, wisk 'em, and pack 'em. Freeze them in  a ziplock bag. Label with the number of eggs and the date. They can be kept frozen for 1 yr. Thaw frozen eggs overnight in the fridge or under running cold water. Use yolds or whole eggs as soon as they're thawed.

How to use Frozen Eggs:
Substitue 3 Tbsp whole egg for 1 large fresh egg.
3 whole eggs=1/2 cup

Have fun with your egg -evtures in the coming weeks. We will be having our usual family hunt. We are also in charge of the 2nd annual Neighborhood Egg Hunt. It was a BIG success last year so I am really excited for this year. We spread the empty eggs. My cub scouts help to fill baggies with the donated candy. Then the kids turn in the eggs to use next year for a bag of candy. If you want to join feel free. Just don't be late. It only takes these kids a couple of minutes to clean up the entire field! So much better than wrestling with the Tauphus Park hunt! Ours will be Saturday, April 3 at 9am SHARP! Remember how antsy the kids get?!?
ENJOY!

Easter Rolls

With Easter around the corner I thought I would share one of our favorite activities. In a house of boys food is always the center of attention. I meet "Hungry" 'round the clock. You know the "mom, I'm Hungry"! So whenever I can teach with food it is a double score for mom. Scripture reading in front of brownies and ice cream- quietest family scripture time E.V.E.R! With that in mind try the Easter story with these yummy and E.A.S.Y rolls:

Easter Rolls
1 pkg Crescent Rolls
Melted butter
8 large marshmallows
cinnamon
sugar

Heat oven to 350 deg. While reviewing the Easter Story build your roll.

Give each child a triangle of crescent rolls:
*** This is the cloth that Jesus was wrapped in.
Give each child a marshmallow
***This is Jesus
Have the child dip the marshmallow in melted butter
***This is the oils of embalming
Dip the buttered marshmallow in cinnamon and sugar
***This is the spices used to annoint the body.
Then wrap up the coated marshmallow tightly in the crescent roll...Bring the sides up and seal the marshmallow inside.
***This is the wrapping Jesus' body after his death.
Bake for 10-12 minutes.
***The oven is the tomb- pretend it has been 3 days
When the rolls have cooled slightly, the children can open their rolls (cloth) and discover that Jesus is no longer there. He is risen. The marshmallow melts and the crescent roll is puffed up but empty.

This is a fun activity to do all together.
